“The varnish”

Another cold day and I cannot get motivated to do anything in the garage, so I’ve been playing TrainStation again.

I have adopted a system whereby the class loco hauled one and class two trains remain in fixed formations. The diesel express (1) is run once a day, dispatched on a 24 hour journey each time. The electric mail (2) and commuter (3-5) trains are run on repeated half hour journeys, as is the local (6). Once the back-logs have been cleared the electric trains are returned to the depot until enough traffic builds up to justify running additional trips.

That just leaves the specials. These museum trains are not used in regular traffic unless the mail/passenger numbers are too much for the electric trains to handle alone, in which case enough freight paths are cleared for the specials to run in.

The logical progression from fixed formation loco haulage is, of course, multiple units. I especially like EMUs, another throwback to my upbringing, where the lovely old LNER designed class 506s were the mainstay of local passenger trains.

TS EMU

This Dutch EMU is the first set assembled, hopefully I’ll be able to add more as the game develops and further train paths are added.
